At Michaels Audio & Video,
our story started with a simple need: homes in our mountain community deserved better technology. When Michael Schurer moved here from Chicago in 1992, many houses were still being wired like it was the 1960s. Builders needed someone who understood modern technology.
So Michael started helping wire new homes, one project led to another, and more than 30 years later, Michaels Audio & Video is still here, still growing, and still built on one thing above all else: taking care of our customers.
How Michaels Audio & Video Got Started
Before opening Michaels Audio & Video, Michael spent 8 years doing high-end audio-video work on the North Shore of Chicago. When he moved to Grand County, he first had the opportunity to help build the first photo lab in the area.
Then he started meeting local builders.
They quickly realized he knew the technology side of home wiring in a way few people in the area did at the time. They began asking him to wire new homes, design systems, and bring modern audio-video solutions into homes that were being built for the future.
That was the beginning. We kept saying yes, kept learning, kept expanding, and kept showing up for the people who trusted us.

We know technology can feel overwhelming. Most homeowners do not spend their day thinking about Control4, networking, smart lighting, security systems, window shades, speakers, or low-voltage wiring. That is our job.

Meet the Team Behind the Work
Michael Schurer owns Michaels Audio & Video and remains closely involved in design, customer service, and making sure each project is done right. His decades of experience guide the way we approach every system.
Tim Miller brings high-level IT knowledge from his time as lead IT professional for both Granby Ranch and YMCA of the Rockies. He helps with programming, networks, and making sure our systems perform at a high technical level.
Tyler Rinn is also an IT professional and is fully trained in Control4 home automation. He helps with networking, programming, and keeping smart systems working the way they should.
Matt Reed helps run the business and is an expert audio-video installer. He has worked with us in the past, brings a lot of experience, and shares our commitment to making sure customers are taken care of.
Jared Schiffner recently returned to our crew and brings many years of audio-video installation experience. He is also a pre-wiring specialist.
Gabriel Atkinson is our newest technician. He helps in the office and in the field with TV hanging, pre-wires, and other installations.
Pat Wales, our office manager, secretary, and product ordering specialist, has been with us for many years. She is one of the backbones of the company, and we truly cannot imagine doing this without her.
